Sports--a reflection of society?
November 10th 2008 02:28
Sometimes we all under estimate the influence of sports. "It's just a game," is often pointed out. I've even said it a few times.
America recently elected its first Black president. Before I'm marked as as racist, let me point out that as recently as 1960, people questioned John Kennedy's ability to run the country because he was Irish-Catholic.
Is there any possibility these milestones mark a turning point for America as ethnic groups come to the fore front? If that is the case, does the success of Mark Sanchez at USC mean a new acceptance of Latinos?
With those questions, here is an article I ran across today in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that was authored by Jim Litke of the Associated Press.
