State of the Browns Address
October 16th 2009 17:57
The Cleveland Browns really have not been impressive and will be expected to receive a beating. When I say that, I am talking about overall since the team was here in 1999. I still do not and will not consider them the same franchise from the ones from the past from 1946-1995 playing as they were the original team. It is going to be them against the Steelers and it seems to be predictable in the sense that you all ready know what is going to happen. It does seem that it will not work out in their favor and there is just nothing that can be expected. The first quarter of the season is not impressive going 0-4. There are too many questions about this team that may never be answered.
There had been some talk about Brady Quinn being traded and it probably will be considered but what can you get for him? The answer would probably be not much of anything. He probably knows his days are numbered. Should they have kept him in there? I don’t know the answer to that but I don’t blame them if they think that he isn’t the guy that’s going to lead them to a Super Bowl. As far as talent, there isn’t much of it at this time.
Yes, they won last week and it was ugly but a win is a win. I’d rather the Browns win ugly than lose pretty. This week is it soing to be brutal. Pittsburgh is probably going to beat them so bad that fans may wish they had never returned to the league in the first place. Then again, that could be the feeling right now. Relocating the team isn’t going to do the trick and would be best if it had retired if they put out another losing season, which is very possible. Perhaps come up with a new name and start to build up a team that way.
Mangini is going to be given at least three years to try to get this going. If he gets it wrong and Kokinis also doesn’t get it right, they both could be gone at the same time. I believe that what would happen would be perhaps the Cleveland Browns fans would start to demand that Randy Lerner sell the team because he seems to not be able to hire the right people or that he does not care about them as much as he does his soccer team being Aston Villa. That is a perception on Lerner whether he deserves it or not.
Forget playing for high draft picks, just play to win every game. Along the way, they can draft a Quarterback that can be ready if they are indeed certain that neither Brady Quinn nor Derek Anderson is going to lead them to the Super Bowl. There would be a Brett Ratliff mention but without really getting a feel for him and the fact he is a third string Quarterback, it would be hard to say for sure on what he can do.
