Texans knock off the Titans!

December 14th 2008 22:29
The Houston Texans have upset the Tennessee Titans 13 to 12 in a shocking victory. The Texans used a formula favored by the Titans in their upset win. They won the time of possession battle and played good defense. Houston kept the ball for almost 15 more minutes than did the Titans.

The vaunted Slash and Dash duo of LenDale White and Chris Johnson were held to under 100 yards rushing. Texan Running Back Steve Slaton rushed for 100 yards even Matt Schaub passed for 284 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Titans Quarterback Kerry Collins on the other hand completed 15 of 33 for only 181 yards and had one picked off. All stats for this article come from NFL.com.

The best Wide Receiver in the NFL that few know about is Houston Texan Andre Johnson. He was a huge factor in this game catching 11 passes for 207 yards in the upset of the Titans. He had one touchdown reception and had a 65 yard catch. Andre Johnson is a first class talent and I was glad to see him have a good game. Having suffered on some bad teams Andre Johnson seldom gets mentioned with the elite NFL Wide Receivers.

To add insult as well as injury to their upset loss to the Texans, Tennessee lost All World Defensive Tackle Albert Haynesworth to an apparent knee injury. If the injury to Haynesworth is serious and he misses games this could be a devastating blow to the Titans. Tennessee wins games with defense and a running attack. Albert Haynesworth being injured weakens this defense considerably. Now that Tennessee is 12-2 this leaves the door open for the Pittsburgh Steelers to gain home field advantage if they can win out.

The Texans upset of the Titans must be really sweet for the sports fans of Houston Texas. Before they went to Tennessee the Titans were the old Houston Oilers. Despite a loyal fan base they made the move and left Houston without a Pro Football team until the NFL gave them the Texans.

And on a side note the Kansas City Chiefs used to be the Dallas Texans in the AFL (American Football League) which helped the birth of the Dallas Cowboys. The NFL was going to give an expansion team to Minnesota, until the AFL put a team in Dallas. To counter this the NFL gave Dallas a team that was the Cowboys and thus America’s Team was born.
