The Detroit Lions may make some playoff noise
December 26th 2011 14:12
The Lions are poised to make some noise in the NFC playoffs. Matthew Stafford is close to an elite NFL quarterback and the Lions defense is sound if a little dirty. Calvin Johnson is the best wide receiver in the NFL at this time.
Stafford stayed healthy in 2011 and fought through some bad play by the Lions to help them make the wildcard spot. The Lions were one of the worst NFL teams in history just three years ago but made the playoffs in 2011.
I really wanted to pull for the Lions but they are just too dirty and want to be the Steelers when they grow up. I also didn’t like the way they mock Tim Tebow and Christians even though I am not religious myself. I just found it tacky and distasteful.
That being said the Lions are a tough team that could slap some of these finesse NFC playoff teams in the mouth. Only the lack of an elite running back keeps me from calling the Lions a Super Bowl contender this season. But they could knock somebody off and maybe even make a Championship Game run.
