REAL world champions

When you think about WORLD champions what comes to mind? When you think of the Super Bowl they call that the "World Championship" but you don't find too many Russian weight lifters on the line! World Series? Spare me! Maybe you have a couple teams from Canada but what about Mexico City??? And baseball is pretty big in Tokyo.
Maybe kids have it right. Ever watch the Little League World Series? Now kids are going to take it one step further in football. USA all-stars are going to enter the closest thing to a world tournament and compete against seven other teams beginning this summer in the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Junior World Championship tournament.
With a format similar to the Olympics, games will include teams from the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Sweden. Late January games between New Zealand and Australia will decide the Oceania participant and a game pitting the Bahamas against Panama will be played and the winner of that contest will take on Mexico around mid-February to determine the final entry.
This inaugural even between just graduated high school seniors is going to take place June 27-July 5 at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio which is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Despite the rise in popularity of "American" football, I see the biggest competition coming from Canada. In these other countries soccer is the game everyone plays and the barbaric aspects of football are frowned upon. Unless the U.S. can counter the speed and wide open play of the Canadians, it may be a long four quarters.
Here's some more information about the contest.
