John Fox should start Tim Tebow at quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Trust me Fox does not want to start Tebow because he hates young players. There are billboards in Denver asking Fox to start the former Heisman winner.
I am a Carolina Panther fan and know well what John Fox wants to do. Fox wants veteran players he does not have to coach hard, and he wants to run the ball. However at 1-4 I feel John Fox should start Tebow to save Fox’s job.
Kyle Orton is a Fox type of quarterback in that he is a veteran and really isn’t awful. If the Broncos were winning then Tebow being the backup could be justified. However if Fox starts Tebow it will get fans off his back. If Tebow tanks then that might buy Fox another year. Or if Tebow flourishes as the starting quarterback of the Broncos then that makes Fox look good.
As you can read here I questioned whether Tim Tebow can even play quarterback in the NFL. I now think Tebow can be a decent backup but he needs to start just to hush everyone up. Tebow has an undeniable urge to win and does some nice things but accuracy HAS to come into play for an NFL quarterback.
Some point to Cam Newton’s success as a reason that Tim Tebow can make it. They both ran the spread offense in college but that is about the only legitimate comparison between Cam Newton and Tim Tebow.
Cam Newton is a better athlete, a better passer and as good as or a better leader than Tim Tebow. Tebow has some good qualities but Newton is miles ahead of him as a NFL player.
However if John Fox does not want to be run out of Denver after one season, he needs to give Tebow the starting job. Who knows, maybe Tebow will help them win a few games.
