Ravens/Titans Playoff Game
January 8th 2009 22:11
Ok folks I went 3 out of 4 in my NFL Playoff Predictions last week. I correctly predicted the winner in all but the Colts-Chargers game. I am back to make more predictions and playoff game break downs for week two of the NFL Playoffs here in 2009. I run a Football Website, write a sports column for a local paper and cover the Carolina Panthers for another website, so I am qualified to do this. This article is a breakdown of the Baltimore Ravens at the Tennessee Titans Playoff Game. I also made predictions and breakdowns of the Eagles/Giants and the Panthers/Cardinals if you are interested in those as well.
The Baltimore Ravens will be going into Tennessee to play a very hard hitting playoff game this weekend. These teams are very similar in that they play good defense and ball control offense. The big difference is the Ravens have a rookie quarterback in Joe Flacco. The Titans have 146 year old Kerry Collins who has been there, done that and has the T-shirt. I have one prediction to make right now, whoever wins this game will lose their next one, from being beaten up so badly. In week 5 these two teams played a close game that the Titans won 13 to 10. All stats and playoff schedule information come from NFL.com.
Breaking down the Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens surprised a few people with rookie head coach John Harbaugh who led the team to an 11-5 regular season record in 2008. Joe Flacco came in for an ailing Troy Smith at the start of the season and played well for a rookie quarterback. LeRon McClain brought back the idea of a fullback running the ball. Derrick Mason and Todd Heap are about all this old passing game has to offer, but they can get the job done when needed.
The Baltimore Ravens win games by beating the crap out of the opposing offense and causing turnovers. Often ball hawk Ed Reed is returning an interception or fumble recovery for a touchdown. This defense is just intimidating and can put points on the board on a pick six at anytime.
Breaking down the Tennessee Titans
The Titans got off to a strong start after Vince Young’s mental problems brought Kerry Collins to the helm at quarterback. Chris Johnson and LenDale White made a nice one two punch at running back for the Titans in 2008. But like the Ravens the Titans are a rushing team period. Collins only passed for 2,676 yards and 12 scores, but led the Titans to a pretty good 10-0 start before falling to the Jets. However Tennessee has almost no big play capability. If I was Coach Fisher, Vince Young would get on the field in some kind of Wildcat Formation just to try to throw off the Ravens defense.
As stated earlier the Ravens/Titans playoff matchup brings plenty of defense. The Titans also play a physical style of defense. The defensive line on this team featuring Albert Haynesworth, Jevon Kearse, Kyle Vanden Bosh and Tony Brown are good as any in the NFL.
Prediction for the Ravens/Titans playoff gameMany people seem to think the Ravens are just going to walk all over the Tennessee Titans, and with their defense that is a possibility. I just think that Joe Flacco’s rookieness will catch up with the Ravens.
I think there will be a big special teams play with Titans Chris Carr making a long return, possibly for a score. The Titans will get a lead on Baltimore and run the ball as much as possible. Coach Jeff Fisher and his defensive staff will confuse Flacco and the Titans will win the game 17 to 10.
