Remembering Gene Upshaw
August 23rd 2008 02:17
A host of fans knew Gene Upshaw as the head of the NFLPA ( union for pro football players) but some of us remember his playing days. Gene Upshaw dead of cancer at 63 had a hell of a NFL career.
He was on the really good Oakland Raider teams and joined with Art Shell and others to make a dominating offensive line. He collected three Super Bowl rings and made the NFL Hall of Fame.
Now Gene Upshaw had been under fire of late for the shoddy treatment of former NFL players. He was not very popular but managed to hold onto the top spot in the Union despite that fact.
But nobody can badmouth his playing career with the Oakland Raiders. The NFL has lost a great one in Gene Upshaw, RIP.
