USC punished

June 10th 2010 22:53
USC had a very stiff penalty for recruiting violations handed down today. USC is on probation for four years and has been banned from Bowl appearances for two seasons. In addition the NCAA stripped USC of 30 scholarships over the next three years.

Of course coach Pete Carroll isn’t around to enjoy this. Neither is Reggie Bush really being punished for his sins at USC. Reggie has only had to fight being a bust in the NFL until recently. Now his name is mud in college football and USC has been ordered to not have anything to do with him. Reggie Bush’s Heisman is also at risk for all the crap he pulled at USC.

Here is where I go on my rant. College athletes should be paid to play sports at the school. I know you college football purists say an education is payment enough, and I used to think so too. But face it most college athletes go to at least try to turn pro in their sport. Let the athletes draw a stipend and get the education if they want to put in the work. I would give the athletes more for good grades as an incentive to try harder. I would also pay athletes a percentage of jersey sales.

That being said USC cheated and Reggie Bush took more bribes than a Democrat in congress. I am sure the Tennessee fans are laughing their asses off at Lane Kiffin right about now!

NCAA sanctions are a crock of crap anyway. You punish a school after the dirty coach is gone. You punish players who were in high school when the rules were broken. Pete Carroll went to the NFL but when he gets his ass kicked he will be back in the college ranks. The NCAA should punish Pete Carroll when he returns to college football for the cheating done at USC.

I know almost nothing about football, but punishing the guilty seems a lot more reasonable than punishing the next generation. And perks do sound like a good incentive to keep players in school.

Yeah, I hate Pete Carroll. He is such a wimp. Leaves college when he knows the sanctions are up. Carroll has no respect for his players. He only cares about himself.
