West Virginia-Auburn--not the game we anticipated
October 22nd 2008 01:48
Before the NCAA football season started, this looked like a dream match up with the winner anticipated to entertain if not the national championship, at least a BCS invitation. Both West Virginia and Auburn are unranked despite the fact that each team began the season in all the Top 10's that matter. This won't be the ratings bonanza ESPN expected but it WILL keep the announcers on their toes in an effort to find a way to hold viewers' interest in a ho-hum game!
Now we have Auburn coming into Morgantown after a hard fought loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks 25-22. West Virginia's last game was a 17-6 victory over Rutgers. Casual fans may say, "The the Mountaineers are at home, coming off of a victory--I'll put my money there." I wish it was that simple!
Remember Auburn plays in the SEC home of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, so they know hard nosed football. West Virgina? Well, they're in the Big East. Need I say more? Granted Pitt is looking awfully good right now and don't forget about South Florida but, it's no SEC. Additionally, a defeat at the hands of the Mountaineers would mean three consecutive losses for the Tigers and I don't think they will stand for that.
I bleed blue and gold so, I hope I'm wrong on this but I have to go with Auburn on this one 32-10.
