This article will explain why the Carolina Panthers should draft Cam Newton with the first pick of the 2011 NFL draft. I will also write an article explaining why they shouldn’t draft Newton. As a Carolina Panthers fan and NC native I can see both sides of the issues. But I don’t think they should draft Cam Newton with the number one pick. Though they did in my 2011 NFL mock draft that you can see here.
Even though I favor Patrick Peterson there are some compelling reasons for the Panthers to draft Cam Newton with the number one pick. The first is the man wins football games no matter where he goes. He won national championships on two levels and won big games at Auburn. Winning football games is what its all about but that is often downplayed for a college achievement.
Another reason to draft Cam Newton with the number one pick is his potential. Cam Newton isn’t Michael Vick or even Vince Young in an athletic sense. But he is more advanced as a quarterback than either one of them was at this point in their careers. He is also more advanced than Tim Tebow who didn’t suck too bad as a rookie on a bad Denver team.
Cam Newton should be drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the number one pick to put asses in seats. Fans all over the country will be paying attention to the Panthers for possibly the first time. African American fans in the Charlotte area are going nuts for Cam and may boycott the team if he isn’t drafted. Popular Charlotte morning sports radio host Chris McClain was the first of several to be called a racist on the air for not supporting Newton.
It comes down to whether you want to risk passing on a franchise quarterback or would rather not chance drafting a bust. Let me know if you agree with my reasons why the Panthers should draft Cam Newton.
