Dallas Cowboys using the Wildcat
June 5th 2009 21:27
The Dallas Cowboys are joining the trend of “Wildcat” offenses that is the current NFL thing to be doing. According to Profootballtalk.com Tony Romo may even see some time at wide receiver. It makes sense with Felix Jones who was in this offense at Arkansas and is a playmaker of some talent.
With the Miami Dolphins enjoying lots of success with the offense last season expect several teams to at least experiment with it. Whatever team takes a chance with Michael Vick should have it in their offense. Vick would be a dream at running this offense and could play any skill position in the Wildcat formation.
The Dallas Cowboys using it will make it even more popular among fans if it works and they will be clamoring for their favorite team to implement it. However you do need the right personnel to use the wildcat.
You need a quarterback who is at least slightly athletic so he can run out to wide receiver and run a feasible route. But more importantly you need a wide receiver or running back who can handle a shotgun snap and then run, hand off or pass the ball. Wide Receivers who were college quarterbacks are often good Wildcat players. I shall be interesting to see how much America’s Team runs the Wildcat offense
